  1. Day1 Kampala - Budadiri to Sasa Camp 2900m

We will pick you up at your hotel for the journey to Mount Elgon in eastern Uganda, a 5-hour journey past the Mabira Forest onward to Mbale town and Budadiri. The simplest and fastest, way up the mountain is the Sasa trail leaving from Budadiri. In the morning you reach Budadiri at 1250m, nearby Mbale town, at the gate of the Mount Elgon National Park. After arranging the guide and porters, with food and camping gear.

Mount Elgon cave Uganda the first morning’s climb is steep and quick. This involves the “wall of death” – so named for the frayed local ropes that, in previous years, was the only way to climb it. Fortunately, the UWA installed sturdy staircases up the cliff face several years ago, so porters can almost run up the mountain and you’ll feel the name is no longer deserved. Above this, it is a straight, steep path through the rainforest and the bamboo zone to the lunar landscape above. You walk to Sasa River Camp 2900m for the dinner and overnight. The distance is about 8km and takes average 7 to 8 hours, 1700m walk.

  2. Day 2 We move from Sasa camp to Mude Camp - 3500m

After breakfast at the camping site, proceed through the forest to the summit base camp – Mude Cave Campsite for dinner and overnight. It’s about 4 to 5 hours, 600m elevation. However, if you have limited time, work with a tight budget, and have fit, you can trek straight up to Mude, rest the night and strike out for the summit, Wagagai, the following morning. Regardless, it is best to reach the summit in the morning, owing to cloud cover after midday.

  3. Day 3 From Mude Camp to Wagagai Peak 4321m then return to Mude

After breakfast, you walk through the moorland zone up to the main peak, Wagagai, and return to the Mude campsite for dinner and overnight. It may take 8 to 9 hours of elevation – 820m. Descending, you have the choice to return by the Sasa Trail or head onwards across the caldera.

  4. Day 4 From Mude Camp back to Budadiri

After breakfast descend to Budadiri and back to Mbale.

  5. Day 5 Transfer to Kampala or Entebbe airport

Breakfast and then off for Jinja where we go to the source of the Nile River Park and see where the White Nile and Lake Victoria merge. Lunch at the Sunset Hotel overlooking the Nile River.
In the afternoon, we drive back to your Hotel in Kampala, or head to airport for return flight
